Many college students want to get involved in politics on campus and make a difference in the world. This article serves as an overview for activism for college students. Here are five ways to get into activism for college students: 1. Join Student GovernmentThis is probably the ultimate test for a college student’s skill in politics. Just about every campus in the United States has a student government with regular elections. Even if a college student decides not to run for office, a student government is still a good place to work on solving problems for the student body. This also helps college students learn how to communicate to people about activism. 2. Join a Student OrganizationMost colleges have student organizations that focus on something their members have in common. Often times that something is an activism cause or a view of politics. A bigger campus will have bigger selections, so college students should take the time to try a few of them out and settle on the one that best suits their interests. Smaller campuses have fewer student organizations, but college students shouldn’t rule out forming student organizations of their own. 3. Write for the School NewspaperIf a college student can write well and has a knack for finding a good story, he should try the school newspaper. Writing an editorial is a great way to spread a message about politics. A college student can also use the school newspaper to bring attention to other student organizations that support her activism cause. 4. Volunteer for a CampaignCampaigns focus on accomplishing specific goals for a specific cause. The goals can be diverse. Convincing the campus to start a recycling program is one example. While such campaigns often end after the goal is achieved, college students can form friendships during the campaign and then continue to work in politics together. 5. Start a ProtestA protest is one of the most daring forms of activism for college students. All that is required is to gather a large number of fellow college students and make a visible scene on campus. Disrupt traffic, wave signs, and do anything else that draws attention. Be warned, however, that your campus administration may not appreciate your efforts. Be careful about breaking any laws, or you and your fellow college students may end up in jail. The list goes on from here. Interested college students should check their campus website for information, or just walk around campus looking for activism fliers. Hopefully, this article has helped in explaining how to get into politics on campus.
